This year, Connekt celebrates its 25th anniversary. Originally established on 28 January 2000, Connekt has evolved from a knowledge institute into a national platform for mobility innovation and an internationally recognised organisation.

Shortly after its inception, ITS Netherlands was founded, making Connekt the official representative of the Netherlands in the field of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). This positioned Connekt as a key player within the Network of National ITS Associations, which now includes over 30 countries and 2,500 members, fostering international collaboration.

Growth and impact: from then to now

Over the years, Connekt has developed into an international connector in mobility and logistics. Initially a national network, it quickly expanded to form influential global partnerships. Initiatives such as the Smart Mobility Embassy, Lean & Green International, and International Affairs in Brussels strengthen the global presence of Dutch innovations. Through active participation in trade fairs, conferences, and trade missions, Connekt has enhanced its visibility and impact as an international player.

As a connector in mobility and logistics, Connekt’s international activities focus on four key areas:

Smart Mobility Embassy: an international network for smart mobility

Connekt’s Smart Mobility Embassy connects Dutch innovations with foreign governments, start-ups, and networks such as embassies and consulates. Through events and collaborations, cross-border mobility solutions are facilitated, and Dutch innovations in smart and sustainable mobility are promoted worldwide.

ITS Nationals Network: strengthening global collaboration

Connekt plays a key role within the Network of National ITS Associations, which consists of over 30 countries and 2,500 members. As the official Dutch representative in the ITS sector, Connekt promotes collaboration between ITS organisations and facilitates the exchange of knowledge, best practices, and innovations that contribute to the global development of mobility solutions.

International Affairs: European cooperation and digital logistics innovation

Through its International Affairs programme, Connekt focuses on European policy development and digitalisation. It actively participates in the Digital Transport and Logistics Forum and supports members with European funding applications and strategic policy initiatives. Connekt also leads the BoostEDIC M&L project, which contributes to the digitalisation of mobility and logistics and strengthens the position of Dutch businesses in Europe.

Lean & Green International: sustainable logistics and network expansion

With Lean & Green International, Connekt supports similar organisations abroad that assist companies and governments in reducing CO2 emissions within logistics chains. Through these collaborations, Connekt contributes to the transition towards more sustainable transport solutions and supports global supply chains in achieving more efficient and environmentally responsible logistics.

    International collaboration and impact

Connekt serves as a bridge between Dutch and international stakeholders, assisting businesses in achieving their international ambitions. Through strategic partnerships with ITS organisations and collaboration with embassies and consulates, Connekt facilitates knowledge exchange and joint projects. Additionally, it contributes to the development of global mobility standards and guidelines, ensuring Dutch expertise is integrated into international frameworks.

Future outlook: the next 25 years

Digitalisation, sustainability, and international collaboration remain central to Connekt’s strategy for the next 25 years. The mobility sector faces new challenges, including the integration of autonomous vehicles, data-driven traffic management, and the further greening of logistics. Connekt aims to expand its international network and strengthen its role as a facilitator of innovative partnerships. By focusing on technological advancements and sustainable mobility solutions, Connekt continues to play a significant role in shaping the future of global mobility.

Pushing boundaries: advancing mobility and logistics sustainably

The past 25 years have demonstrated that cross-border collaboration is essential for the future of mobility. Through initiatives such as the Smart Mobility Embassy, Lean & Green International, International Affairs, and the Network of National ITS Associations, Connekt remains committed to advancing innovative and sustainable mobility solutions, with digitalisation and international cooperation at the forefront.

This progress would not have been possible without the invaluable support of our members and our (inter)national network of partners. Together, we continue to shape the future of mobility and logistics.
